While we attempt to make sure that every major update is fun on its own (including this one), I wanted to address that this particular update won't be immediately apparent how much it will affect the overall game right away. Taking Root is the first major update in this arc and is mainly focused on the entry point of this new end game content. As discussed in the most recent roadmap, the new arc is focused on both endgame and early game content.

Mods have been slowed down for polling to check for updates from the platform’s workshop when idle on a mods panel or server creation screen. Wilson’s Barber big portrait will have the proper tint relative to other big portraits. Nouveau Club Portrait’s selection icon will now show up. Wickerbottom’s body piece will show the correct rendering order for the torso. Wickerbottom’s arms will no longer morph into her Lunar skin’s in certain poses. Wormwood’s hands will be the same shade as the other leaves in the skin. Wormwood’s will show the missing flow when pointing up when bloomed. 
Wormwood’s will have the correct ghost skin. Wormwood’s will have correct leaf colours when blooming. Wormwood’s eyes will no longer have white speckles around it. Willow’s hair has had a stray bit of art removed. Willow’s has had its lips colour adjusted. 
Wanda’s will no longer have an invisible chin during her youth. Wanda’s will have the clock hands move depending on age. Wurt’s tail will have matching colouring. Wurt’s will have the correct ghost skin. Lunar tree saplings will no longer have a small white pixel floating off in the distance. Burnt small trees will no longer have a small thin white line on it when zoomed out. Punching bags will no longer have their damage indicators grow in size while idle. Fixed insanity sound effects playing over each other going in and out of lunacy areas. Added check cases for custom worldgen presets missing fields to stop a game crash on startup with certain mods. Fixed a sound on the Brightshades when they entangle a plant. Fixed herd members forming herds too quickly making multiple herds next to each other. Fixed a crash with Brightshade Vines being hit. Fixed a crash with Terrorclaws trying to attach itself to a boat. Fixed Mushrooms being able to be picked up when they shouldn't. Fixed Mushrooms not saving their growth time correctly. Wagstaff will no longer stick around after defeating the Celestial Champion if rifts are already open or if they are turned off through world settings. Added a signature to the signed 10th year anniversary vignette. Wagstaff’s face and goggles are now HD to match the body. World settings to come at a later time. Lunar Rifts will now try very hard to spawn outside of base areas. We are looking into options for bringing to console and we will announce more information when we have it. The Forge is not available on Consoles at this time. Because we designed the event around this, we designed the gameplay to be played for a short time. The Forge runs on official servers that we pay for and provide free of charge. In addition, this method of funding allows us to provide content to all our players, instead of splitting the player community if we implemented it with a DLC paywall. We hope that with this mechanism, we can both continue creating great free content while also supporting the development team.

The Forge is a free limited time 6-player co-op challenge, where the goal is to try and defeat the Grand Forge Boarrior in an arena. They’ll need to team up to defeat the Battlemaster’s army and his champions if they have any hopes of returning home. With the Ancient Gateway activated our survivors find themselves trapped in a hostile world of fire and battle.
